Mackenzie Tran - Piano
Mackenzie (she/her/hers) is a vocalist, pianist and educator based in Vancouver, B.C. She began studying music at the young age of 4 years old and quickly took to various different disciplines: singing in both jazz and classical choirs, studying classical piano and accompanying school ensembles, and playing mallet percussion. In her time pursuing her B.Mus at Capilano University, Mackenzie has performed with ensembles Narwhal and Nitecap, and has had the pleasure of studying under and performing with many artists from all around the world, including Amanda Taylor, Brennan Baglio, Vinny Golia, Curtis Andrews, Len Arulia and Greta Matassa, and locals Steve Maddock, Jennifer Scott, and Jared Burrows.
Mackenzie currently teaches voice and piano lessons privately, with a specialization in students interested in following the RCM program. She plans to go on to teach high school and pursue her Masters and Doctorate. |
Riley Poystila - Bass
Riley Poystila is an upright and electric bass player based in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Riley has a passion for playing a span of musical genres, from jazz to R&B and funk, and has a not-so-secret fondness for playing rock music.
Originally from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Riley moved to Vancouver to pursue her education and career in music, and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Performance and Composition from Capilano University. In 2024, Riley is using their musical abilities to make their mark on the Vancouver jazz scene, and looks forward for performing for you at a show soon. |
Kate Johnson - Drums
Hailing from East Vancouver, Kate has been working as a professional musician in the Vancouver jazz scene since the age of 12. Kate attended the Capilano University Jazz Studies Program, during which she had the great opportunity to learn from and study with many of Canada's great musicians.
In addition to being a musician, Kate is a coach with the Vancouver Female Minor Hockey Association, and also plays on an adult league team. Currently, Kate is working and making music throughout EastVan with local artists of all kinds. Focusing on creating a more inclusive, safe and accepting music scene throughout her community. Kate has completed successful productions of "Carrie: The Musical" and "Ring of Fire", and most recently returned from touring with the company of the musical "Always... Patsy Cline" across Western Canada. |

Isabel Leong is a guitarist and vibraphonist based in Vancouver, B.C. Her love of music started at the age of three, studying classical piano under the Royal Conservatory of Music. She later began playing guitar, saxophone, and mallet percussion. Isabel has studied under the tutelage of Bill Coon, Jocelyn Gould, and Craig Scott. In addition to The Leading Ladies Little Big Band, she leads the Ghibli Jazz Orchestra and is an active grant writer and arts administrator.

Dom Hallberg brings a unique blend of blues, roots and jazz sophistication to her role as the guitarist for The Leading Ladies. Her playing has infused the big band jazz sound with her dynamic guitar work.
Before her journey with The Leading Ladies, Dom honed her craft in the world of rock music, drawing inspiration from bands like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Her transition to jazz was influenced by the pioneering sounds of Wes Montgomery, whose innovative style continues to shape Dom’s approach to guitar. In addition to her work with the band, Dom shares her passion for music as a dedicated music teacher at Horizon School of Music, where she nurtures the next generation of musicians. Whether on stage or in the classroom, Dom’s expertise and enthusiasm for jazz guitar shine through. |
